Shopkeeper in rates row forced to close by losses

A SHOPKEEPER who was taken to court over unpaid business rates is to close her business.

Georgina Henderson, owner of Foam Fashion in Hart Street, Henley, blamed the loss of £20,000 in custom she says she suffered as a result of building work going on behind the shop.

She said that since a cage was erected outside the store in February last year to store building materials her takings have been down by as much as a third.

The boutique will close next Saturday (August 23) after nine years in the town.

Ms Henderson, 51, of Duke Street, said: “We can’t cope any more. The damage to our trade has made it impossible to continue. At the end of July I realised that over the previous four months we hadn’t made enough.
