THE post office in Stoke Row, which is based at the village shop, is set to close on November 1 unless someone comes forward to run it.
Postmaster Peter Armstrong had his notice accepted by the Post Office on August 1.
Writing in Stoke Row News, he said: “After due consideration, we have decided to retire from running the post office section in the shop after 21 years, leaving the opportunity for someone else to take it on.
“As those who have followed the Government/Post Office debacle over the years will appreciate, the Government has stripped more than 80 per cent of the business from the Post Office, hence the footfall that it used to bring has diminished, leaving the shop subsidising the post office, which is not sustainable.”
Mr Armstrong said he had been “bombarded” with new compliance legislation and changing business practices.
