Villagers pledge to save historic pub

AN HISTORIC pub near Watlington will close on Sunday after 200 years.

The Half Moon on the B480 at Cuxham has become unviable, according to pub company Brakspear, which owns it.

But villagers say they will fight to save the award-winning pub, which has had several tenants in recent years.

The pub has been registered as an asset of community value, meaning that the company must give locals the opportunity to buy it before it goes on the open market, although it doesn’t have to accept any bid.

Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said: “I will offer it to them if they would like to buy it.”
