Bank accused of breaking pledge over cash machine

NATWEST has been accused of breaking a promise to keep a cash machine in Sonning Common after closing its village branch.

Since the bank in Peppard Road closed three weeks ago the machine has not worked properly, meaning customers are unable to use it to withdraw money.

NatWest had said the cash machine would remain until a permanent location could be found but a week after the closure it was covered in duct tape.

The tape was later removed but the device still doesn’t function fully, although the screen appears normal.

Keith Atkinson, of Red House Drive, Sonning Common, said: “It is breaking the promise that NatWest made — that the cash machine would remain. It is pointless having a cash machine if you can’t use it.
