A PUB in Middle Assendon has won an award for its gardens.
The Rainbow Inn, which dates back to the 17th century, won the annual garden competition run by pub company Brakspear.
Landlords Graham Curly Chandler and his wife Jean, who have spent 20 years at the pub, won a £1,000 prize.
The pub has a cottage-style garden at the front and back with views over the Stonor Valley.
Mrs Chandler said: Were delighted to have won. Creating and maintaining the gardens is truly a labour of love, so its lucky that we love gardening.
The garden has really come into its own this summer as the good weather has encouraged customers to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine, the views and the scents of the flowers and shrubs.
The competition was open to all 129 Brakspear pubs.Chief executive Tom Davies said: It was a pleasure to judge this competition.
Many of our licensees have a great talent for making the most of their outdoor space and we saw some stunning gardens and patio displays. It wasnt easy to choose a winner but Curly and Jeans hard work at the Rainbow has really paid off and were delighted to reward their achievement.
