Luxury barge builder returns for Thames boat show

A FLEET of luxury barges was moored at Temple Island Meadows in Henley at the weekend.

It was the third annual show staged by boat builders Piper, from Stoke-on-Trent. More than 120 people visited the show, where a number of new models were on display alongside ones brought along specially by previous customers.

Managing director Simon Piper said: “We deliver a lot of boats to the Thames and this setting works very well for us — it’s stunning.” Peter and Gillian Bennett, who live in Dubai, arrived in their 65ft barge, called Gillian B, which they bought from Piper for £426,000 last year.

Mr Bennett said: “We have lived on board for the last three months in Fulham and have loved it. The nice thing about living on a boat is you meet so many people who are just walking past.

“Pipers have been fabulous and we would definitely recommend them — and there’s no better PR than happy customers.”
