Book nook for drinkers at pub

A BOOK corner has been created for customers at a pub in Henley.

A BOOK corner has been created for customers at a pub in Henley.

Melanie and Colin Roberson, landlords of the Saracen?s Head in Greys Road, decided to add the feature when the pub was being redecorated.

Mrs Roberson hopes the new shelves will become a home for the hundreds of books at the couple?s flat. She said: ?My husband has boxes and boxes of books so we thought we?d put them in the pub and let people take them.?

The pub walls have been painted, the oak floor stripped and the curtains replaced.

Mrs Roberson, 47, said: ?It?s quite amazing the dramatic difference that paint can make as it really seems to have lifted the place. We are really, really happy with the result and our customers seem to like it too.

?We?re very much a community pub and we think the changes have made a nicer environment for everybody.?

The couple took over the pub in 1997, the year their 16-year-old daughter Charlotte was born.
