DAVIS TATE celebrates 22 years of successful business in Goring this year, and to mark this milestone, the company has made a significant investment in its High Street premises, writes Jacky Hayler.
Following the closure of the former HSBC bank in March 2011, and subsequent concern that the only cash machine in the village would be lost, Davis Tate arranged to purchase the building on the understanding the ATM would remain.
“Our negotiations with the bank’s agents revolved around the retention of the ATM,” said managing director, David Tate.
“We are very pleased to keep it as a facility for the village, and also to bring customers to our window.”
The ATM needed to be adequately secured, and at the same time the new owners sought permission to convert the first floor offices into a pair of apartments, for which permission was granted in February 2012. The plans also include a new Estate Agency showroom, and a purpose-built management office for Davis Tate’s growing accounts and property management department.
After nearly a year of construction work, the new showroom opens officially today (Friday), with local director James Elliott and his team welcoming former HSBC employees and customers to see the transformation of the former bank — including the original strong room, which is now a display showcase for the finest local property.
“When we first opened 22 years ago, the bank probably had 16 staff, including a full-time manager,” said Mr Tate. “By the time it closed, it was down to two part-time staff, and a pretty sad building.
“We are very pleased to breathe new life into it, with up to a dozen key management and accounts staff in the rear office, and a 50ft High Street frontage to display local property.
“James Elliott has created a fantastic office for continued success in 2013 — and the next 22 years!”
The opening will be held from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, March 1. To confirm attendance at the opening, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call (01491) 873456.
