Taste of fair trade produce

TASTERS of fair trade products were offered to residents of Sonning Common.

TASTERS of fair trade products were offered to residents of Sonning Common.

An ice-cream van was parked outside the Co-operative store in Wood Lane while brand ambassadors David Elsey and Andrew McGhie handed out samples of the company’s Fairtrade ice cream, chocolate, cookies, bananas and tea and coffee to passers-by.

People could also take part in a quiz for which all the answers were somewhere on the van. The visit was part of a tour to mark Fairtrade Fortnight, an annual celebration of the fair trade movement, which helps producers in developing countries by guaranteeing fair prices.

Mr Elsey said: “Everyone was very polite, welcoming and interested in what we do. Ninety per cent of people said they buy fair trade so that’s great.”
