Restaurant bid to open longer

PLANS by a Chinese restaurant in Henley to increase its opening hours have been criticised by town councillors.

PLANS by a Chinese restaurant in Henley to increase its opening hours have been criticised by town councillors.

The owners of Chef Peking, in Market Place, have applied to open from 11am to 1am on Mondays to Wednesdays, 11am to 3am on Thursdays to Saturdays and 11am to 1am on Sundays.

The town council has recommended the application is refused on the basis that the longer hours would be “unneighbourly”.

Councillor Lorraine Hillier said: “There is no policing on the streets between 2am and 3am and that is the problem.”

But Councillor Martin Akehurst said: “On Thursdays to Saturdays it is already open until 2.30am, so 3am is not going to make a lot of difference.”

Councillor Sam Evans said: “It’s very rare that Chef Peking is open that late.”
