WATLINGTON Post Office has been shortlisted as one of the top card retailers in the country.

The High Street store has been nominated in the best non-specialist independent retailer of greeting cards category at the annual Retas awards, organised by Progressive Greetings magazine.

Nikki Jackson, sub-postmaster and card buyer, said: “We are a rural post office that relies on a strong retail offering of greeting cards, gifts and toys to keep the business sustainable.

“We have been told that we are an anchor store for the community and cards are a large part of our retail mix.

We are ‘an Aladdin’s cave’ for our customers and have been told that the greeting cards selection is the best in the area.

“As a local independent shop, we have to be fiercely competitive to encourage people to ‘shop local’.”

The award winners will be announced at the Dorchester Hotel in London on July 10.
