Entrepreneur expands his cleaning empire

A BOAT cleaning firm is working flat out to meet demand.

Boats2Gleam, which is owned by Gary Winter, from Rotherfield Greys, has more than 200 customers at six sites along the Thames.

With the season now well under way, the company’s three staff are working seven days a week to get boats ready for events such as Henley Royal Regatta and the Henley Festival.

The company operates from the marina at the Harleyford Estate, just across the river from Hurley, and has a contract with the Val Wyatt boatyard in Wargrave.

It also has clients at the marinas in Bray and Windsor, at Penton Hook in Surrey and at St Katharine Docks, near Tower Bridge.

Mr Winter, 37, grew up in Binfield Heath and went to school in Abingdon before going straight into business.

He founded the Clean2Gleam group seven years ago, starting with its car detailing division Cars2Gleam and Boats2Gleam followed six months later. Mr Winter said: “We do most of our work at Harleyford but we are fully mobile and can clean boats at the bottom of customers’ gardens or even on hard standing.

“We work throughout the year doing routine cleaning but a lot of people want their boats looking at their best in time for the start of the social season, so it starts to get really busy by May.”

In December Mr Winter launched an offshoot called Aircraft2Gleam, which cleans private jets for clients at Stansted, Luton and Biggin Hill airports.

The Clean2Gleam group now employs 20 staff and Mr Winter said he was proud to be expanding the business during a recession.
