AN outdoor cinema in Henley was visited by 450 people last weekend.

The Regal Picturehouse’s pop-up screenings in Mill Meadows were a sell-out between Friday and Sunday, showing classic films including Jaws, The Breakfast Club and Some Like It Hot. There was also a licensed bar and refreshments from Henley Piazza Café.

Groups of friends gathered to enjoy pre-show picnics before the films started at sunset.

It was the first foray into American-style outdoor cinema by the Regal, which is now planning to expand the operation for next year.

Marketing manager Jane Brianboys said it was “very successful”, adding: “We now feel we can go bigger for 2014. Our licensed capacity was 150 but we hope to extend that next year. It’s not every day the town gets something new like this.”
