Post Cottage is an historic detached property, now restored and extended, in a sunny plot of more than a third of an acre.

The four-bedroom detached property, which is believed to be more than 350 years old, was once the village post office.

This very “chocolate box” cottage features superb original features including exposed beams, original floors and a unique spiral staircase which runs from the cellar up to the attic bedroom.

There are very pretty, private, south facing gardens to the side and rear which extend nearly 200 feet while beyond the gardens is open countryside.

The cottage is located in a highly regarded Chiltern village which has an excellent primary school, but which is only a 10-minute drive into Reading town centre. Properties of this significance rarely come to market and viewing is very highly recommended.

The original cottage has been extended to the rear to provide the new kitchen and the master bedroom suite.

The 25ft drawing room overlooks the front and side gardens and was originally the post office “shop”. This room has a beamed ceiling, an inglenook fireplace which now has a log burning stove and doors leading to the staircase which leads down into the cellar and up to the first floor.

There are two further reception rooms in the original cottage - the dining room which has a vaulted ceiling and another room which could be used as a study and which has the original tiled floor.

The kitchen/breakfast/family room is fitted with an extensive range of custom made and hand painted cabinets and drawers with attractive granite work surfaces and upstands. In addition to the Aga is a two-ring gas hob; there is also an integrated dishwasher and fridge.

This sunny room has a limestone floor and French doors which open into the garden.

On the first floor is the master bedroom suite which is nearly 17ft wide and which has far reaching views, plus an ensuite shower room.

On this floor is a further good sized double bedroom which has an extensive range of built-in wardrobes and cabinets and a single bedroom with a large walk in cupboard.

On the second floor is a large attic, double bedroom which also overlooks the rear gardens.

The grounds are the perfect setting for this unique home. Set behind private hedges to the front and rear, there are pretty cottage flower beds and a drive, providing off road parking for a number of cars and which leads to a detached garage.

To the rear are south facing gardens which extend nearly 200ft with superb lawns and mature trees and shrubs. There is a paved terrace immediately adjacent to the property and steps which lead up to a further seating and entertaining area. There are a number of outbuildings in the garden - one has been converted. The property is available through Davis Tate. For more details, call 0118 972 4242.
