Duo open vintage fashion store

A NEW store selling vintage clothes, furniture and accessories will open in Caversham today (Friday).

A NEW store selling vintage clothes, furniture and accessories will open in Caversham today (Friday).

Ruby Vintage will be run by Marilyn Barnes and Debbie Pack who have been one of the 27 independent traders at the Vintage Look in Market Place Mews, Henley, for the past two years.

Mrs Barnes said: “It’s mainly clothes but we will be doing a bit of shabby chic furniture and accessories.

“We will have 50th anniversary china, old hats, staircases and everything that we had in the Henley store. We have two big rooms in the top and a big basement.”

Mrs Barnes, 52, from Reading, has worked in antiques for 30 years and with Mrs Pack, also 52, from Wokingham, since 2011.

The pair decided to open the Caversham store after Mrs Barnes’ experience working at Dancia International, a dancewear store opposite their new outlet.

She said: “I’ve worked in Caversham for five years and I know a lot of vintage clothes dealers here. A friend suggested I open up here and I thought if I don’t branch out now I never will, so we’re going for it.”

The store will be open from 10am to 5pm from Saturday to Tuesday but will stay open until 7pm on Thursdays.
