The Catherine Wheel in Hart Street is backing Tax Parity Day, which aims to highlighting the benefit of a VAT reduction in the hospitality industry.

Prices at the Wetherspoon pub will drop by seven-and-a-half per cent for the day to show the benefits of an overall VAT reduction of five per cent.

At present, all food and drink in pubs is subject to 20 per cent VAT, compared with supermarkets which benefit from a zero VAT rate.

Pub manager Kevin Elvin said: “We are proud to support the campaign to reduce the level of VAT within the pub industry.”
