Another pub shuts

A HENLEY pub has closed little more than a year after new landlords took over.

A HENLEY pub has closed little more than a year after new landlords took over.

The Rose and Crown in New Street, which also offered accommodation, is currently unoccupied while Brakspear decides what to do with it.

Alan Woolgar, 33, and Arron Christopher, 30, took over running the pub in June last year.

Mr Woolgar had been bar manager at the Horse and Groom, a few doors away, and head chef Mr Christopher had worked in the kitchen at Hotel du Vin, also in New Street.

The pub had been refurbished following the departure of previous landlady Maria Albu but the men struggled to make a profit and left last month.

Brakspear has said it will honour all room bookings by using the Row Barge in West Street.

Chief executive Tom Davies said: “The Rose and Crown has struggled for a number of years to make a healthy return for its tenants.

“We are now considering options for this pub and in the meantime are honouring all room bookings made before its closure.”
