FOR Davy and Jess Snowdon and family, Alderley in the sought-after area of Lambridge Road was to be their “forever home”.
Bought 11 years ago as a fairly run-down property, they have renovated it and transformed it into their dream home. But since their four children grew up and moved on, the couple have decided to downsize.
Davy, a former weightlifting world record holder said: “We fell in love with the location rather than the property but we could see the potential in it. Since then we have quite literally done everything to the house — from numerous extensions to installing a state-of-the-art sound system.”
Marble tiles were sourced from Italy, there are three separate heating systems giving the owner complete flexibility at the touch of a button and the Sonos sound system means music can be piped throughout the property.
Both Davy and Jess are very proud of the home they have created. A bespoke kitchen forms the hub of the home and a custom-made study — which is home to the couple’s own health and safety company, Pristine Condition — even has a customised desk with its own unique paper shredder.
The couple have also worked their magic in the garden. There is a tree house for younger members of the family while an outside fire enables guests to enjoy the space whatever the weather. Despite this, the garden is a low-maintenance space.
For Davy, it is the kitchen which is his favourite space, the focal point of the home for immediate family or for visiting guests. “It is a real entertainment property and we have had many good parties here,” he said.
Running a close second is a room you might almost miss. Upstairs in the master bedroom there is plenty of storage space, mainly taken up by his own extensive wardrobe. Hidden up a small stairway is Jess’ walk-in wardrobe, a place of worship for most women with a double-space enabling you to rotate summer and winter clothes.
But it is not just the frivolous that is catered for in this home — the practicalities of everyday living have also been made a major priority. The boot room leads to the laundry room where wet and dry areas are in separate sections with space for the ironing board to be permanently in position.
Davy added: “We wanted to make it our dream home and literally no expense was spared. Everything has been done with an eye for detail and to the highest specification. It will be a real wrench to leave it but we believe it has been priced to sell.”
Alderley is a spacious five-bedroom property with a double-aspect sitting room with black marble fireplace complete with dual-fuel stove, a spacious kitchen/breakfast room and a large reception room and conservatory (currently being used as a gym). There is also a separate study on the ground floor.
The master bedroom has an ensuite shower room and dressing room while the guest bedroom suite boasts its own sitting room, kitchenette and an ensuite bathroom connecting to the ground floor by a separate staircase. There are three further bedrooms (one with ensuite shower room and one with a WC and basin) and a family bathroom.
There is a triple garage and a large raised deck runs the length of the property with covered areas for entertaining. Steps lead down to the landscaped garden which is laid mainly to lawn with mature trees and flower beds. There is a further workshop with greenhouse and log store.
The couple, who also have a holiday home in Arizona, are planning to stay living locally — but they hope to find a derelict property and build from scratch.
The property is available through Knight Frank for a guide price of £1,695,000. For more details, call (01491) 844900.
