THE Great House Hotel in Sonning has been sold for about £5 million.

The 50-bedroom hotel and restaurant on the banks of the Thames has been bought by SCP Hotels, a new company headed by former Pizza Express and Punch Taverns entrepreneur Hugh Osmond.

It had been owned by Gordon Currie for 25 years.

The hotel, which has two restaurants overlooking the river, a conference suite and large garden, is a popular venue for weddings and functions.

SCP Hotels also bought the Swan at Streatley a year ago and Mr Osmond said: “We are looking forward to developing our hotel and restaurant concept over the next few years. The company has plans for substantial investment in the Great House, which it views as a wonderful opportunity in a superb location, supported by a loyal and highly capable staff.”
