MP’s plea on rates

HENLEY MP John Howell has called on businesses to say whether business rates should be reformed.

HENLEY MP John Howell has called on businesses to say whether business rates should be reformed.

It follows the launch this week by the Chancellor of a review of the current system.

Mr Howell said: “Business rates are an unfair tax for which businesses see little in return.

“When I took this up with the Chancellor last time, it contributed to further changes through a business rate discount of up to £1,000 for retail premises, including shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants, with a rateable value of up to £50,000 this year and next.

“Now, as the Chancellor has asked for views on what should happen to business rates, I am keen that the businesses of this area have their say.”
