Hundreds of people visited In the Groove in Reading Road on Saturday in the hope of finding a classic.

Owner Andy Tucker said: ?It was probably our best day yet. We were busy from the time we opened until 6.30pm. There was a queue outside at 8.30am. I reckon there was probably five times the volume of stuff shifted compared with a normal Saturday.

?Record Store Day started about 10 years ago. It was an idea a bunch of people in America came up with to support record shops which were closing down.

?They encouraged record labels to release limited edition, highly desirable items that only independent record stores would stock. That spread to the UK and I?ve been doing it for the last five years.?

This year?s releases included a David Bowie picture disc single and a 10th anniversary edition of the album Get Behind Me Satan by The White Stripes, available for the first time on vinyl.
