Local agents still key to search

FOLLOWING the high-profile launch of OnTheMarket.com earlier this year, it is more important than ever for buyers to speak to their local estate agents and property experts to register their requirements.

The Henley Standard has a whole Property area on its website at www.henleystandard.co.uk/property/index.php where you will also find a list of the local agents.

One of whom, Phil Booth of Philip Booth Esq, told Standard Property: “Up until January of this year, Rightmove and Zoopla — of which PrimeLocation.com is a part — were widely recognised as the two main property portals that estate agents used to promote their properties online.

“In most cases, both portals carried the same properties. It was down to the personal preference of the house-hunter as to which of these two portals was their favourite search tool.

“But when OnTheMarket launched, it required estate agents to drop either Zoopla or Rightmove if they wished to appear on OnTheMarket too.

“This means that buyers using a single web portal, or even two portals, to look at properties no longer get the full picture of what’s for sale or to rent.”

As Standard Property reported at the end of last year, with more than 90 per cent of buyers using the internet to search for property, many now miss out on what’s available unless they also use local property experts.

Phil Booth concluded: “Using a combination of searching in the local newspaper, online via the web portals and — most importantly — registering with your local estate agent, will give you the best chance of securing your dream home.”
