A VILLAGE pub will re-open next week with new landlords.
Adam and Sandra Purdy have taken over The Horns in Crazies Hill after moving to the village from Lancashire.
The couple have more than 20 years? experience in the pub and restaurant trade. Mr Purdy is a chef who has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants and his wife has worked mainly front of house.
The couple were married in September and moved to be closer to Mrs Purdy's family in Newbury. The Horns be their first business they?ve run together.
The 16th century pub was closed in February after John and Sarah Schlaefli left after just 18 months in charge. They were the sixth tenants at the Brakspear pub in as many years.
Mrs Purdy said: "Brakspear were very open and welcoming and once we saw the Horns, we knew it was right for us. It's a lovely, traditional pub with a huge garden and bags of potential.?
Her husband added: "We don't want to turn the Horns into a gastropub. Drinkers will be as welcome as diners and it'll have a relaxed and friendly feel.
?The menu will offer top quality food, created from local ingredients wherever possible, including vegetables grown in the pub garden."
The pub will be refurbished before opening next Friday.
Brakspear chief executive Tom Davies said: "We're delighted that Adam and Sandra have taken the keys to the Horns.
?Their complementary skills in the kitchen and front of house make them a very strong team and we're confident they will soon turn the Horns into one of the busiest pubs in the area.?
