The Bell Bookshop in Bell Street hosted a reading of the classic children?s story and Hilary Evans, a friend of store manager Hilary Redhead, dressed up as the friendly grizzly bear-buffalo cross. The store was chosen to host the event after winning an independent bookshop of the month award from Macmillan Publishing.
The Gruffalo posed for photos with children who were read the story by Susie Parfitt, a member of staff. There were also gruffalo cupcakes, a treasure hunt and nature trail.
Mrs Redhead said about 50 children visited during the afternoon.
?People seemed to really enjoy it and there were no cakes left at the end,? she said. ?Some children were distracted when Susie was doing the readings because they wanted to get up and cuddle the Gruffalo.
?We also had one child in our first reading who was scared by the sheer size of the costume.?
