‘Let shops open longer’

LARGE shops should be allowed to open for longer on Sunday, according to Henley councillors.

The town council’s town and community committee was responding to a public consultation being run by South Oxfordshire District Council on Sunday trading laws.

At the moment, shops over 3,000 sq ft can only open from 10am to 6pm while smaller shops can stay open all day. The committee said allowing larger shops to open longer would encourage residents to shop in their own town and could also provide more jobs.

Councillor David Nimmo Smith said: “I actually welcome the fact I can go out and shop on a Sunday now.”

The consultation ends on Thursday. To take part, visit http://consult.southandvale.gov.uk/public/southandvale/elp/ed/sunday_trading_ hours
