Winning firework show

A FIREWORKS company from Sonning has won a national competition.

A FIREWORKS company from Sonning has won a national competition.

Sonning Fireworks beat rivals from across the country to win the Fireworks Champions event at Eastnor Castle in  Herefordshire.

The audience watched displays by each contender and then voted by text for the  winner.

Sonning Fireworks, which finished second last year, took 57 per cent of the votes.

The company was founded in 1998 by Reading Blue Coat School chemistry teacher Paul Brown and former students Chris Clarke and John Field. Mr Brown said: “The competition last year was the first we had entered and having come second we had a look around at the others and upped our game this year.

“A lot of work goes in to it as it’s very competitive. You have to be creative with the music and keep the crowd entertained.”

As well as traditional Bonfire Night shows, the company now gives displays at private parties and weddings.

In November it will put on a display at the school.
