A VILLAGE pub is to re-open this month after more than a year ? with a pizza oven.

The Half Moon at Cuxham has been bought by Vaska Battley and her business partner Artur Foltah from Henley pub company Brakspear.

The pub, which was closed in September last year, is currently being refurbished before opening again in about a fortnight.

Mrs Battley, 42, who is originally from Macedonia, has more than 20 years? experience in the catering industry and Mr Foltah, who is originally from Poland, almost 20.

Mrs Battley, who lives in north London, said: ?We wanted to buy our own pub and we first saw this one last October.

?We really liked it and it just felt right. There?s lots of character and it?s a beautiful place.

?We saw a few other pubs and nothing seemed right so we decided to take the chance.? The sale was completed in August and since then the pair have been busy redecorating the pub and installing the pizza oven.

In keeping with the Italian theme, the menu will include pasta dishes and salads. Mrs Battley said she and Mr Foltah had experience of Italian cuisine.

She said: ?We?ve worked in restaurants over the years serving Italian food so we have knowledge of it. It is what we?re good at.?

Mrs Battley said there wouldn?t be many other changes. ?The pub is beautiful and it?s the heart of the community so we want to keep that going,? she said. ?The community has been very welcoming. Everyone has come to the door and said ?hello? and offered to help.

?We?re very close to opening now. Hopefully we should finish off in the next couple of weeks. When you walk in you?ll have beautiful surroundings and a delicious meal.?
