Store closure

THE Co-operative store in Sonning Common was closed for three days unexpectedly.

THE Co-operative store in Sonning Common was closed for three days unexpectedly.

The Wood Lane food shop shut on Tuesday last week and a sign was placed on the door, saying: “Due to unforeseen circumstances our store will be closed until further notice. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

The shop re-opened at 9am on Friday. A Co-op spokesman said the closure was to allow “essential work” to be carried out.

Meanwhile, the company has submitted a retrospective planning application for a cash machine after installing one near the entrance to the shop without permission.

The application to South Oxfordshire District Council includes illuminated signage.

The company spokesman said: “It is not unusual for us to seek retrospective planning permission for matters such as the siting of an external ATM.

“We have been in discussions with the district council and are confident that we will receive the necessary approval.”
