Love Local event proves popular

Love Local event proves popular

Hundreds of people attended a Christmas shopping evening at Henley Rugby Club.

The event was organised by Love Local, which aims to promote small retailers and artisans that don’t have a presence on the high street or anywhere to display their work. There were 29 stalls selling a range of goods including chocolates, sweets, artwork, jewellery, pottery, handbags, Portuguese pastries, illuminated decorations and dog accessories. The club’s kitchen team provided hot food while the bar was open and selling a Christmas-themed bellini cocktail.

The Wargrave branch of the RNLI also had a stall and was collecting donations.

Love Local co-founder Lynne Lambourne, from Peppard, said: “It was a brilliant night. It was very well-attended and the rugby club looked amazing after its recent refurbishment. The club’s catering really added a social element and gave people a reason to hang around for longer and talk with one another. There was something on offer for everybody and we want to encourage people support our creative local businesses rather than just buying their presents online. Hopefully the stallholders will get a lot of repeat business.”
