Sir John Madejski opened a new branch of a solicitors’ firm.

The Reading FC chairman and deputy lieutenant of Berkshire was joined by more than 50 guests at the launch of Parfitt Cresswell in Prospect Street, Caversham.

He cut a ribbon in front of the premises, which were previously occupied by lettings agent Drummonds.

The new branch will be open during the week and on Saturdays.

The company, which was founded in 1908, has six other offices in the South-East.

Chief executive Nigel Harper said: &dquo;We pride ourselves on being at the heart of the communities where we are based and are looking to establish a consumer brand so this is an ideal location.”

Sir John said: &dquo;It’s always a delight to see a new business opening and this is a company with a very successful track record.

&dquo;Being right on the high street means people can do their shopping and then pop in for advice.&dquo;
