Award-winning landlords quit

THE landlords of the Catherine Wheel in Goring are to step down.

THE landlords of the Catherine Wheel in Goring are to step down.

Tim Schulz, 34, and James Dawe, 39, took charge of the Brakspear pub in Station Road in 2012 and have won several awards.

Two months ago the Catherine Wheel won the restaurant category in the 2015 Best Thames Local Awards and in 2014 it was named the Publican’s Morning Advertiser’s best turnaround pub in the South-East.

Neither man had previously run a pub but they wanted to change careers — Mr Dawe had an office job in London while his partner was a marine biologist.

The couple will continue to live in the village and plan to launch their own brand of cider over the summer.

Mr Schulz said: “We’ve loved running the pub but felt it was time to move on to a new project.

“We always wanted to be the pub that residents are proud of and visitors wish they had, which I think we’ve achieved.”

Their farewell party will be on June 25 at Goring Pride, the summer festival they launched in 2014.
