Lodge house with mooring has its own history

A PRETTY lodge house with its own mooring and historical associations has come up for sale in Sonning.

“Offering period features and practical living space, lodge houses tend to be highly sought after and are particularly well suited to couples or downsizers,” says Katie Baldwin, an associate director at Savills in Henley, which is currently offering Mill Lodge in Sonning for sale. “The one additional distinctive feature and a real benefit of Mill Lodge is that it comes with its very own 29ft mooring.”

The building was originally the lodge to Sonning Mill, which for centuries produced flour — including for the besieged garrison in Reading during the English Civil War.

It was most recently used as staff accommodation, until the mill closed in 1969. The lodge then passed into private ownership, with the mill becoming the Mill at Sonning dinner theatre. Not bad to have on your doorstep.

Mill Lodge comprises two double bedrooms, a kitchen/ breakfast room, bathroom, sitting room, dining room, garden, summerhouse/office, parking, river garden and 29ft mooring.

Guide price: £650,000. For more information, call Savills’ Henley office on (01491) 843001.
