Council criticised for poster removal

ANGIE BEST has criticised Henley Town Council for taking down posters promoting her son’s gym

ANGIE BEST has criticised Henley Town Council for taking down posters promoting her son’s gym.

Calum Best, a former male model and TV personality who opened the BstLfe gym off Marlow Road in February, attached the adverts to lampposts and other street furniture in the town centre without permission two weeks ago.

Speaking at a council meeting, Mayor Lorraine Hillier confirmed that a member of council staff had walked round removing them.

She was responding to a complaint by former mayor Pam Phillips, who said: “This is a commercial business and has no business to be attached to any of our lamp posts.” This week, Mrs Best said it was “a shame” the council had taken action without contacting her or her son.

She said: “Some kind of communication would have been nice.

“People in Henley are trying to run businesses so you’d think the council could reach some kind of compromise — you could just be allowed a poster for four days or something similar.

“Local businesses are failing left, right and centre so they should be doing what they can to help..”

Best, 34, launched his gym after LA Fitness in Newtown Road, Henley, closed last year. His mother, who runs the neighbouring Metaphysical Gym, helps manage it.
