A NEW café has opened at a Henley clothing store, writes David White.
Mayor Lorraine Hillier cut a ribbon to officially open the Smiley Café on the first floor of M&Co in Bell Street.
The business is run by Steve and Sandra Cunningham, from Woodley, who used to run the Bom Dia Café at LA Fitness in Newtown Road for eight years before the gym was closed in August.
The old café, La Riviera, closed a few days before.
Mr Cunningham said: “We were looking for something and then this opportunity came up with M&Co.
“Sandra’s very well known in Henley because of the Bom Dia Café so she’s been desperate to get back.”
The café will serve tea and coffee and hot food such as paninis with table service as well as offering free wi-fi.
“It’s good, fresh, honest food always served with a smile,” said Mr Cunningham.
The Mayor said: “It was a great pity when Bom Dia closed down and I’m glad that Sandra has found a place because she has a very strong work ethic.
“We want to retain a vibrant centre in Henley and it’s important that we look after our traders.”
Store manager Jonathan Burton added: “They have done an absolutely fantastic job of rebranding it.”
