JUST as the Catherine Wheel in Hart Street, now a JD Wetherspoon pub, was named after one of Henley’s former saints — St Catherine, the patron saint of wheelwrights — so the former Basketmaker’s Arms is thought by some to have been named after St Anthony the Abbot, the patron saint of basketmakers and brushmakers.

If readers have any more information on the history of the Old Basketmaker’s Arms, please do get in touch as the Henley Standard would love to know about it.
