New boutique opens as Festival season starts

A NEW boutique store opens in Henley today (Friday) — just yards from the owner’s existing clothes shop.

Henley Frocks, which is run by Mandy Bowden, will specialise in evening wear, party frocks, prom dresses and occasional wear.

The shop is in Friday Street and has taken over the former premises of Knights Oriental Rugs, which closed earlier this month after 14 years.

Mrs Bowden, who also owns Daisy Boutique in Friday Street, said: “We have decided to open this new shop because we’re constantly being asked for evening wear and party wear, prom dresses and occasional wear and I just feel there’s such a gap.

“I don’t have the space in my current shop so I’m expanding.

“I’m so familiar with this market — I sold in it for about 15 years in previous businesses I ran with my mother.

“Henley is the perfect place for it with the regatta and the festival and we have got some fantastic schools with their proms.

“For the girls sometimes it’s their very first long dress and it’s very exciting to watch them going through the process of buying it and it’s great helping people for a special occasion.

“I’m extremely excited. I’ve got a creative nature so I’m going to really enjoy dressing the windows.

“We just want to give a good service, make the shop look wonderful and help our customers.”

Accessories on offer will include handbags, jewellery and hats.

The Daisy Boutique company has been in Mrs Bowden’s family for 47 years, having been started by her mother in the Sixties. She said: “We’re one of the few independent shops still going.”

Henley Frocks will be open from 9.15am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday and from 11am to 5pm on Sunday.
