OXFORDSHIRE has one of the best broadband speeds in the country, according to website broadband.co.uk — which said it was one of the top UK counties for fast download speeds.
Having assessed the speeds of more than 5,000 towns nationwide, the Oxfordshire towns of Stanton St John, east of Oxford (with a speed of 60,616KB per second) and Frilford Heath, near Abingdon (47,500KB per second) were found to have among the top download speeds in the whole country — in third place and 12th place respectively.
On the back of this, a certain online agency has produced a new interactive map so users can see at a glance, where they can find the fastest download speeds and how these areas compare to the rest of the region in terms of house prices. (You can find the map online at http://bit.ly/1VWkSqq should you wish.) This news was announced prior to the recent Queen&rsquos Speech in which it was announced that all households will get a legal right to fast broadband.
Her Majesty announced new legislation including the legal right to demand fast broadband under plans to bring rural areas and unconnected households into the 21st century. It will mean that up to a million people in rural areas, who have long suffered terrible coverage, can demand a better service.
It brings internet connectivity into line with the right to get electricity, telephone and postal services. Only a few countries worldwide — including Switzerland, Finland and Spain — have universal broadband.
