THE head chef at a Shiplake restaurant will be parading his skills on a new BBC talent show.

Ryan Simpson, from Orwells, will be competing against 15 other professional chefs in The Big Chef Showdown. They will be judged by chef Pierre Koffmann.

The show pairs the 16 Michelin-starred professionals with amateur cooks, who they will mentor.

The show has already been filmed and will be broadcast in August.

Mr Simpson said: “I’m thrilled to be a part of the new show. Obviously I can’t give anything away at this stage but needless to say it was a great privilege to meet and work with the legendary Pierre Koffmann.

“Liam Trotman, my co-chef and co-owner of Orwells, and I are celebrating six years here. Being chosen to participate in a high-profile show like this gives us and our team a huge boost and we hope our loyal regulars will enjoy it and pick up a few cooking tips along the way.”
