“With Henley being known for its hilliness, originally the land here sloped downwards,” added Richard. “It was a dilemma we mulled over for a time, but in the end our garden designers decided the best result would be achieved by making the ground flat.”

You can see the results in the photographs on page I.

All of Rotherfield Garth’s extravagant five-bedroom, five-bathroom Arts & Crafts-style homes have been built to a very high quality using materials sourced from European specialists, including bespoke Italian marble.

Each property has spacious accommodation and an interior that puts an obvious emphasis on luxury and modern-contemporary (note decorative cornicing, solid oak and glass staircases, chandeliers and “tiger-stripe” granite in the kitchen).

Spitfire made sure these features were complemented by high-spec appliances and fittings, with features such as underfloor heating and extensive security and intelligent electronic systems.

As those of us living in Henley already know, Rotherfield Garth sits on the edge of the town, so it’s a very green and peaceful spot, yet is just one mile from the town centre — a 20-minute walk to the shops, parks, train station, theatre and river.

“This is a rare new-build offering in one of the UK’s most beautiful settings, and surrounded by one of the most attractive stretches of the River Thames,” added Richard, who chose the name of Rotherfield Garth himself. “Well, it’s adjacent to Rotherfield Road, and it’s an enclosed garden of sorts, hence the ‘garth’. The houses are somewhat defined by the ring of mature trees surrounding them — it’s what helps make the close so special.”

Ashley Mason, head of South East new homes at Knight Frank, added: “With Rotherfield Garth, the homes are beautifully finished but it’s also the quality of the location and setting that make this such an exciting opportunity for a discerning buyer.”

If you’re interested and would like to know more about the Rotherfield Garth properties you need only ask to have a look as the show home Douglas House is already open.

Appointments to view can be made by calling the Henley branch of Knight Frank on (01491) 844900.
