Banking on support

Hundreds of cans, packets and cartons were donated at a food collection at the Tesco superstore in Henley.

Hundreds of cans, packets and cartons were donated at a food collection at the Tesco superstore in Henley.

Customers dropped off items at the collection, which was held at the front of the store in Reading Road from Thursday, July 28 to Saturday, July 30.

Wish-lists were handed out to customers, with items including tinned soup, tea and coffee and pasta.

More than 28 trays were filled with food, which were then delivered to the food bank at Nomad, a charity for disadvantaged children and families in Market Place. They will be handed out to needy families over the summer holidays.

Ali Simmons, community champion at the store, said: “We are so pleased and so grateful to customers for their support.

“On all the days there was a consistent stream of people, which was incredible.”

Sarah Lane, youth and family support worker at Nomad, added: “We were amazed at people’s generosity and we really appreciate them trying to help others in the community.

“These donations will help families a lot during the summer holidays.”
