More than £1,222,44 was raised by the Henley and South Oxfordshire branch of Macmillan at a coffee morning at Leander Club in Henley, Committee members and their children had made a range of cakes including Victoria sponges, flapjacks and chocolate brownies. Nicki Mills, chairwoman of the branch’s fund-raising committee, said: “The World’s Biggest Coffee morning raises something like £52million nationally on this one day. In Henley and South Oxfordshire it’s important to us because it goes to people we know who are suffering. I’ve suffered from cancer, my mother has and there are people on the committee whose children, brothers and husbands have suffered, so it’s all very close to out hearts and is why we put so much effort into it.” The event also featured a raffle with donated Chanel and Space NK goodie bags.
