Prime Minister Theresa May was on hand to meet representatives from Helen & Douglas House, the children’s and young adults’ hospice, when she attended the Sonning Christmas Fayre at Pearson Hall, on Sunday, 16 October, with her husband Philip.
Staff and volunteers from the Helen & Douglas House shop in Henley raised £4,922 for the charity, which cares for babies, children and young adults with life-shortening conditions from across the region, at the two hospice houses based in Oxford.
Shop Manager Jean Hugill and Sunday shop Manager Meryem Parker, who lives in Sonning, have organised the event for the past 4 years and Mrs May has been a welcome guest for three of the events.
Jean said; "A lot of people in Sonning made things for us to sell and the local Hotels all supported the event by providing raffle prizes.
The generosity of people in the area is wonderful.
The charity relies on voluntary donations to run the hospice service and we want to thank everyone for supporting the charity and the young people who need specialist care, and their families."
