YMCA grant awarded by town council

A GRANT of £100,000 is to be awarded to Henley YMCA by the town council.

The money will go towards the charity’s £300,000 appeal to buy the lease on its flats in Lawson Road, which are being sold off by YMCA England as it is exiting housing.

Councillors agreed the grant at a meeting on Tuesday (14). The council’s finance strategy and management committee had already approved it in principle last month but asked Mayor Julian Brookes, a trustee of Henley YMCA, to prepare a report on several legal aspects of the purchase.

Councillor Stefan Gawrysiak said: “I think we should thank members of the YMCA who have worked tirelessly to make sure this wonderful facility remains in the town.”
