Controversial triathlon wins award

THE Challenge Henley triathlon, which quit the town in October following pressure from residents angry about the disruption it caused, has won an award.

It was voted the 2013 race of the year by readers of Beyond Going Long, a long-distance triathlon website.

More than 2,000 votes were cast and Challenge received more than half of the total.

The event had been held in Henley in September for the past three years but was dogged by controversy over road closures and has now moved to Weymouth.
