Records tumble as sun shines on 10km

TWO records were broken at this year’s Goring 10km race.

Runner-up Jessica Gibbon, 18, set a new best time in the junior women’s section and third-placed Tim Hughes won the men’s masters section in a record time.

More than 900 runners took part in Sunday’s event, setting off from Icknield Road and following an anti-clockwise circular route around the fields to the north of the village near South Stoke before finishing on Boudillon Field behind Goring Primary School.

About 100 runners were encouraged to sign up on the morning of the race by the sunny weather.

The winner was Steve Barnes, of Newbury Athletics Club, who completed the course in 35 minutes and 28 seconds.
