Mayor attempts 66-mile cycle ride... in a day

THE Mayor of Henley is to attempt to cycle 66 miles in a day to raise money for his chosen charities.

Stefan Gawrysiak hopes to ride from the source of the Thames at Lechlade in Gloucestershire to Henley in 12 hours on Tuesday, starting at 6am.

He will be accompanied by businessman and experienced cyclist Chris Ward, of Lambridge Wood Road, Henley, David Fielding-Smith, of Walton Avenue, Henley, and Paul Waterman, from Sonning Common, a member of the Henley Whalers.

The proceeds will be split between Sue Ryder, Age UK Oxfordshire, the Chiltern Centre for disabled children, Riverside Counselling Service and Headway.

The Mayor said: “It should be an enormous amount of exhausting fun. I have been in training, doing 20 miles every other day, so it has actually been getting easier. I’m confident of completing it but steadily.”
