Tractor charity run includes Vicar

A CONVOY of 55 vintage tractors set off from Fingest on a 27-mile charity run through the Chilterns.

Farmers gathered in a field near the Chequers pub on Sunday for a short service conducted by Rev John Wigram, rector of the Hambleden valley.

The then departed one by one at about 10am and headed south down the valley towards Skirmett. Many of the participants had brought their families, who were towed behind the tractors in trailers and wagons.

The farmers followed a circular route through several farms and country estates before stopping for lunch at Wycombe Air Park.

They were joined on the return journey by Rev Wigram, who drove one of the tractors.

Gary Anderson, who set up the event in 2006, said: “Luckily it didn’t rain but the wind and the cold proved a bit of a challenge. I think it was one of the coldest years we’ve had but tractor drivers are a hardy bunch so everyone had a great day.”

Organisers hope to have raised at least £2,600 for the Thames Valley and Chilterns Air Ambulance Trust.
