110 mile hike for typhoon victims

A MAN from Middle Assendon is hiking 110 miles to raise money for a village in the Philippines.

Simon Lynch, 42, and his friend Jonathan Astill, from Somerset, set off on the five-day walk across Devon on Tuesday.

The pair are raising money for Rebuild Balud, a charity set up to support the village devastated by Typhoon Haiyan in November.

Mr Astill’s brother, Martin, helped set up the charity as his wife’s family live in the village.

Mr Lynch said: “Fifty out of the 70 houses in the village were destroyed and the school was partially damaged.
