Church fete goes ahead indoors after rain forecast
HUNDREDS of people visited a summer fete at St Leonard’s Church in Watlington on Saturday.
The event, which is the church’s biggest fund-raiser of the year, made more than £2,000 which will go towards upkeep of the building.
Attractions included stalls selling cakes, plants and refreshments, a tombola, face-painting and a barbecue provided by Calnan Brothers butchers. Watlington Town Band provided the music.
Organisers decided on Friday to move the event indoors because of the rain forecast for Saturday morning but this didn’t deter visitors, who included Henley MP John Howell.
Heather Morrison, a member of the parochial church council, said: “I thought the weather would put people off but they still came and supported us. I couldn’t have asked for better — it was wonderful.”
