Hike for charity

A MAN from Middle Assendon raised £1,700 to help typhoon victims in the Philippines.

Simon Lynch, 42, and his friend Jonathan Astill, from Somerset, hiked 110 miles across Devon.

The money will go to Rebuild Balud, a charity set up to support the village destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan.

The men, who each carried a 30lb pack, walked for about 21 miles a day for ?? days until the final two days when Mr Astill had to give up due pain in his knees..

Mr Lynch, a father-of-three who works in London, said: “We were carrying these packs most of the way and at the end of the day your feet, legs and shoulders would be throbbing because you are not used to carrying that sort of weight. There were lots of aches and pains.
